Yesterday I noticed that my calves were tight which in turn was causing my Achilles tendons to feel a bit of pain which in turn I noticed was causing strain in my plantar fascia. A slippery slope that led me to major issues before, so today I started a stretching routine now that I am on the glider for about 10 minutes or more 2 to 3 times a day, every day to warm up those muscles.
I started with a runners calf stretch and a few other stretches I found on Runner’s World which I will be incorporating into my routine as well as videos from Physical Therapists Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck on Youtube that my big brother turned me on to. Another routine I will be doing on days like today is giving myself a massage with essential oils or just by using a foam roller to release the tightness and get those knots out. I love the ones from GAIAM.
You can also check out videos from Bob and Brad mentioned above. They have a plethora of YouTube videos from how to stretch your calves, to using a foam roller and which ones to choose from to many other tips and exercises for certain injuries.
**Always consult with your doctor or physical therapist first before starting any new exercise or routine**
Even though my arm is giving me grief still, I’m trying to focus on what I CAN do and right now focusing a bit on my legs and making sure I am doing things the right way, will bring me one step closer gaining the muscle I long to have and shedding the 10 pounds I gained over the past year. Although gaining muscle is priority #2 after getting physically stronger where I can do more of the everyday tasks we all take for granted.
Another day in the books for me!!
