Fitness Check In Day 33: Dr Appt, Fiber, Exercise

I’ve had a not so great and painful 3 days. 3 days of not posting or continuing my fitness journey. 3 days of continued uncertainty and worry. Disappointed that I wasn’t being active and instead lying in bed or just sitting, but the pain and pressure on my intestines was just too much for me to deal with.

I was however, able to get an appointment with yet another new primary doctor early yesterday thanks to Zoc Doc. I went in worried and anxious and peppered him with questions and handed the nurse all the lab reports from my urologist and the emergency room.

His assessment? I shouldn’t worry about my kidneys at all. My labs have nothing that stand out as concerning in the least in regards to that. (WHEW!) (I had to ask someone else just to make sure because of the back pain). When I mentioned I was advised to get physical therapy for pelvic floor disfunction, his face ever so slightly gave away his skepticism. Since I have IBS, he suggested I just go on a high fiber diet (like 30G of fiber) and continue to exercise strictly every day with the exception of the weekends. He said he had hope that I would start to feel better if I stuck to this.

The doctor suggested Calisthenics, but my body is NOT ready for that yet. I did try, but my muscles are too weak and too tight to get through a routine like that even for beginners. He also told me to hold off starting the pelvic floor therapy for the time being. He gave me a small list of high fiber foods, with how much to eat and how much fiber that portion had. This I will admit was very helpful and more than any gastroenterologist aside from the late Dr Gershon ever did for me. Funny thing is I know that I have had IBS for 24 years now, so you’d think I’d be an expert, but this time I was stumped. So like a good patient I’m giving it a go. Today so far I have had 20 grams of fiber with what feels like an ocean of water, but it’s only been 7 glasses as of 9:00pm. Fiber usually works its way quickly, so tomorrow I will see if this new system is the way to go, or if I will need that therapy after all. It’s been soo long with just the runs daily that I had forgotten what clogged pipes felt like, and it’s never been this bad before.

I have to admit, I am more calm after having 3 people tell me (ER, Urologist and Primary) tell me I have nothing to worry about with my kidneys. However, a part of me still feels like maybe, just maybe I DO have tight pelvic floor muscles and exercising on the air walk trainer has exacerbated this after doing the math of when I started exercising and when my constipation started. I have a follow up appointment with this doctor next week so I am doing everything I can to follow his instructions and see where this leads me before then.

On a good note? I did exercise today as instructed. I did only 11 minutes on the glider so I wouldn’t aggravate my inner thigh like the last time. I also did 10 minutes of Quick Fix Buns and the 10 minute Abs workout as well as one of my favorites that I missed, DDPYoga Stand Strong I. It felt amazing to get back to the workouts again even though it’s only been 3 days!!!!

Tomorrow I will do a few stretches I found for Pelvic Floor tightness and see if the helps the pelvic floor muscles if I see I’m still having issues answering the call of nature. Another set of workouts in the books, another day closer to my fitness goals before Comic Con!!!!

Until tomorrow my phoenixes and remember, you got this!
