Last week I went in to get X-Rays of both hips (recommended by my physical therapist)due to the pain from doing my physical therapy stretches for those hypertonic (tight) pelvic muscles and on the recommendation of my chiropractor, got an X-Ray of my back due to some back pain that wasn’t going away.
Since those exercises, the back pain was diminishing, so my main concern was my hips. I was able to access my records online and am waiting for my doctor to discuss them with me, but what I saw is it looks like my hips are fine. I don’t see any tears or impingement! But to my surprise, the X-Rays show I have Osteoarthritis in my L4-L5 and L5-S1.
Tell me how in the ever loving world did I get this? I remember reading up on this years ago, and the main contributing factors were age, wear and tear, and joint injuries aside from obesity.
Not once did I read that living a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to this condition but it can. Being injured over and over and over and over again can cause you to move less, and moving less means weaker muscles which is true as I have all over muscle atrophy that developed in 2023. My joints became stiff and continue due to sitting all the time and not moving as much as my body needed. This stagnation can hinder that production of fluid that lubricates and cushions your joints. This lack of fluid can accelerate the wear-and-tear on cartilage.
So what do i do now? I have no idea. My credit cards have reach their limit so there the only way I can help myself deal with the pain is going to the library to do some research and seeing what I can do on my own. The consequences of being inactive these past 2 years has been huge and I’m left lost on what else I can try to stay active while I am trying to deal with the pelvic floor muscle issue that is prohibiting me from doing any form of exercise as they all exacerbate the problem.
I have gone back to square one dozens of times over the years but this time, I’m tired, physically and mentally and not knowing where to begin, makes all of this all the more difficult. Until next time phoenixes.
