So today I had the virtual appointment with my gastroenterologist who told me my biopsies from the colonoscopy came back normal and I don’t have Crohn’s Disease which is AMAZING! However, I do have a hyperplasia mucosal lump or inflamed hyperplastic polyp in my bum which she said happens to many people and may or may not be cause of the high levels of Calprotectin and inflammation so I may have it removed, depending on what the surgeon says. This still leaves me with no definitive answer as to why I still feel crummy and can’t eat what I used to. So for now, I am to continue taking the Voquezna for another two months and she will check in with me afterward to see how I am feeling then and run more tests. So I am still kind of back to square one on the why I still feel the way I feel and with no answers on the inflammation.
However, I am not too upset because thanks to the Voquezna, which I’m now back up to 20mg which works better than the 10mg, I have seen a change and I am confident now thanks to my doctor that I will get answers soon.
Although I am not a fan of medications, I am thrilled that I am finally on meds that have helped. Thanks to this treatment, I am able to go outside more because I’m not on the toilet 6 to 8 times a day like I used to be. Since this year has started, I have been making a conscious effort to take advantage of my quiet bowels and get outside more. While the weather here in the city has been colder than it has been in years with many days being below zero, I layered up like the kid from a Christmas Story and have tried to walk for at least 1 mile. In total I went out and walked for 1 mile or more for 18 days in January!!! So far this month, I have walked 7 out of the 11 days. A far cry so far from last year where I looked at the health app on my phone and saw that I only averaged about 30,000 steps last January compared to this years 72,360 steps!
Today, work was super busy so I didn’t get to go out for lunch and the cold wind stopped me from going outside, so I decided after thinking about it for a few minutes, that I would try hitting the mat for the first time since last year and do two workouts from Trish Stratus’ Yoga DVD
The shoulder impingement in my right is still giving me grief, but to my surprise I was actually able to finish the first 10 minute workout with modifications! The second workout was pushing it honestly and I felt it, so I eased off a lot making certain movements smaller and skipping a few plank dogs but I did it!! I actually was able to hit the mat and shake the cobwebs from my joints. I knew my body was tight so getting into down dog felt delicious. The pain in my calves and back that I have had for weeks subsided significantly after that workout. I felt a little bit of that peaceful euphoria that I used to feel every time I hit the mat in the morning before my day started. This gives me hope that I am getting closer to being able to hit the mat every day if I keep going at this pace. I have my sights set on New York City Comic Con after all which is the second week of October. Since last year I already have plans set in place with two of my friends for our costumes as well as the wrestling costume I will be wearing this year for the wrestling cosplayers meetup with the group from last year. I know that this is still months away, but I know I can get there just as I did last year with focus and determination!!!
For the foreseeable future, I will continue to try and walk a mile each day to get my legs stronger and tomorrow I will start using the resistance bands again to strengthen my arms as well as incorporate stretching to keep my body from getting stiff again. I also have in my exercise arsenal, DDPYoga which has been an amazing and invaluable tool in getting me stronger so I am excited to be adding that back into my weekly routine. I do have to make sure that I am monitoring the effects on my pelvic floor which gets tight every time I walk for longer periods of time or exercise my legs too much. It’s all a balance right now but compared to last year, I am DEFINITELY better!
New York Comic Con is not my only goal however. I have my sights set on teaching Warrior Tai Chi and am getting stronger every day so I will be able to teach classes come the fall or maybe even sooner! I really can’t wait!
Until next time my Phoenixes!! Be kind to yourself and others and remember sometimes slow and steady wins the race. Keep going, you got this!!!
