Fitness Check In Day 34

Since 2022, July 4th has been a tough, emotional day to celebrate.  This is the day that my dear papa passed away in the evening with my brother, mom and myself all around him as we watched him take his last breath.  Even though he suffered with Alzheimer’s for a few years, he still knew who we were, he ate, danced, laughed, and made us laugh.  It was doctor negligence that ultimately led to his death, but that story is for another time.

Today, as usual, I woke up exhausted.  But I did get on that glider per doctors orders and once I felt some discomfort in my feet, I stopped, but completed 15 minutes, so kudos to me for that!  A little over an hour I just felt even more wiped out, so I had to take a nap.  This was disappointing because today is my day off.  I really wanted to take advantage and go outside to feel the sun in my face. But alas, that was not to be. I stayed in bed for a few more hours until I remembered my dad and his last days.  Even with all that he went through, he had the fighting spirit.  He came home, skinny, gaunt and weak, and he still had the fighting spirit until his body couldn’t fight anymore. With that in mind, I wiped the tears from my eyes and got up.  Yes, I’ve been in lots of pain and when I sit on the mat, all I feel are the bones instead of muscle, but I got on that mat to do DDPYoga. This time it wasn’t Bed Flex or the Chair program. This time it was Energy Classic, which was one of the first workouts of the DDPY DVD’s I started out doing in 2013.

Now, of course you have the option of using the DDPY APP that’s been around for years now and that has all the workouts in every program.  I was determined to try this after not doing DDPY on the mat since September of last year.  Today, while my toes are not feeling as stable and strong as they should, and the workout was heavily modified, I was able to complete the 24 minute workout. Not only that, today, I had an NSV (non scale victory) at least once in this workout, I was able to do upward facing dog!!! My wrists are super weak but my shoulder held up, which was a welcome surprise.  I will have to get some jellies or a special mat just for my wrists as I had before, but to be able to do all of this was exciting! I did get up from the mat in a bit of pain and soreness, but I got up!

It’s now past 12am but I needed to check in, since I felt that I honored my dad in some way, by getting up and being able to push through safely to complete the workout and I did watch the Macy’s fireworks later in the evening. The music was sensational and my dad who always watch with us, would have loved it. Love you papa.

Thank you to all the service men and women who gave their lives for this country and to those who serve now.

Day 34 is done. Another day closer to my goals. Stay strong my phoenixes. Remember, you got this. Take it one day at a time!
