After going out for about 1 block and a 1/2 on Sunday, my body was craving more exercise time, so last night after work, I bundled up with two hats, since I am still getting over that cold, a fleece over my shirt, scarf, gloves, you name it. I did look like the kid from A Christmas Story, but it was worth it because I was able to go the discount store 7 blocks from me to get wrapping paper. It felt really nice to walk and get the blood moving without freezing my face.
Today I did the same thing. During my lunch hour, I went outside and walked about 1/2 a mile getting grocery items I needed. I did walk a bit slower to enjoy to enjoy some sun on my face and walked even slower past the gentleman who were selling Christmas trees to take in the air of Christmas The smell of pine is just heavenly and put a smile on my face and aside from them, if you look around my neighborhood, there isn’t any evidence that it’s the holidays so you have to look around for the little things to perk you up and make sure to leave the house with the Christmas spirit in your heart.
My right arm is getting more stiff since I have not yet healed from the shoulder impingement (it’s been over a year now) but my legs are getting stronger and my glutes are slowly filling out again which will make it easier to sit on my chair without feeling pain.
It’s crazy to think how quickly you can get injured, but how slow and arduous the healing process can be. But slow and steady will get me to where I want to be. With patience and focus, I have seen the progress starting from when I was able to go to Comic Con. Then I was able to take part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Now my next goal is to be able to walk 3 miles for the Turkey Trot that I originally was going to go in person after Thanksgiving, but changed it to virtual because I wasn’t feeling well at the time.
Tomorrow during my lunch hour I hope to go and pick up some books I had ordered for Christmas which will get me out of the house again for at least an hour.
Aside from DDPY Bedflex which has been invaluable to me, I will also be doing a program for at least a month called WeShape which has different programs based on your needs and abilities. In my case, I’m starting out with the basics like small movements and stretches so I can get my body used to moving again in certain ways instead of jumping into a full yoga routine (although my body is dying to get on that mat again.) Gentle exercises will ensure I get there the right way to prevent injury when I do get strong enough to hit the mat.
A lot of progress on the physical front so far. As far as the Barrett’s, I am doing much better. I can swallow water without pain which is awesome and I am able to eat eggs without feeling like I’m swallowing rocks so I’m definitely much better than I was just a month ago. Now I know I am getting ahead of myself but I am getting hopeful that I will be able to eat cinnamon cake, pumpkin and apple pie, and chocolate M&M’s again soon. Not all at once of course, but maybe once a week I could indulge in those delectable, delicious, decadent treats!!!!
BUT, for now, I am happy I am grateful that I am doing better little by little. Patience truly is a virtue. Until tomorrow my phoenixes. Remember to give yourself from grace, celebrate the little wins, and NEVER GIVE UP!
