Lately, it’s been a hit or miss as far as the energy I have, so when I do have the energy, I try to do all the errands I can or tackle things I have had to put on the back burner.
Yesterday, I was on fire with all the energy I had and I took advantage. Yesterday was January 7th and that’s the day we usually take down all the Christmas decorations since it’s a day after my brother’s birthday (All Kings Day). We have your average New York apartment, but we decorate a lot and with great joy, so taking things down takes even more time. Even before breakfast, I was already taking down the decorations on the walls.
After breakfast, I continued to take things down and organize them in a pile from big to small so it would be quicker and easier to store them. I tapped into my Monica Gellar to get things done more efficiently so I could have energy to keep going and it worked well for me.
I took a break to start working and a few hours later took my lunch break and picked up where my mom left off, taking the rest of the decorations off the tree, and the lights. I had trouble taking the branches off the tree so I left that for my brother to do. I still had some time left for my lunch break and started taking down the tree in my room (my brother and I have a small 2ft to 3ft fake tree we put in each of our rooms which makes our workspace more festive during the holidays).
After work and before dinner, I finished up taking everything down and started storing all the decorations as neatly and carefully as possible (all of which take a lot of energy to do for me). After dinner I finished up, organizing and putting up all the items I normally have up during the rest of the year in my room at least.
Why am I detailing all I did yesterday? Because as I have mentioned on this blog, I have had a lot going on and I have come a long way since then. The energy I had to do all of this left me amazed and beyond proud. It’s been a really long time since I have had energy to do all that I did yesterday. Decorating for Christmas takes time and while it’s enjoyable it does take some energy to do it all so I broke it up into days. Taking it down and putting it all away last year took me days to finish. While there are still items to be put away and furniture moved around (all which my brother will do), I helped a lot this year and got my room done in one day. This is hopeful. This is progress. This is something to be proud of and celebrated.
As I have mentioned before, I have a long way to go, but I am getting there little by little with patience, grace and determination.
Later today I have an appointment with my gastroenterologist to discuss the results from the bloodwork which showed pre-diabetes and stool test that showed a very high level of calprotectin and see where we go from here. For now, I will relish in my win from yesterday. I didn’t walk 3 miles, but I did do a lot of bending, squatting, getting up on the ladder (which I did not have the strength do months ago) and moved my body quite a bit which counts as exercise for this fitness check in.
Until next time my Phoenixes. Take things one day at time, celebrate your wins no matter how small and keep going!! Healing, getting stronger takes time and you will get there! Don’t forget to be kind to yourself as well. You got this!
